Frequently Asked Questions
What is BitRaider?
The BitRaider system is a digital distribution delivery system that allows the end consumer to begin playing the game with only a fraction of the game delivered, and continue to play while it is streamed on the fly without any code intervention of the game itself. In almost every case, the title itself doesnt even know we are there and thinks the entire title is already locally stored and being played like normal. How does this compare to other streaming solutions that haven't lived up to expectations in the past?
BitRaider is architected to take advantage of the advanced technological updates found in Windows XP and above which avoids all the shortcomings, pitfalls and patent litigation surrounding virtual disc approaches more commonly found currently on the market. How long would a 1GB game take to start playing in minutes?
There is a range depending on the speed of your internet connection, but average times would be between 10 and 3 minutes for broadband with throughput of 1 Mbs to 3 Mbs.How can your technology work without integration into our games?
Our proprietary engine "profiles" the final .exe files and can recognize over 600 different types of assets in order to start with 10% or less of the footprint of the delivered and then stream the right content before the player needs it. Additionally, we can develop a custom "recognizer" that will perfect the 'profile' to bring the footprint down to around 7 or 8%.What has to happen to host your technology?
Nothing. One of our primary design goals was to have zero integration to make it frictionless to deploy and support our profiled game files. There are no specialized or dedicated servers with high overhead costs to deploy this system. We'll work with any Web server, CDN, FTP, disc image (including having a small portion of the game on a promo CD) and even off a flash drive. So don't you have to install the game after it gets downloaded?
No we install as we download, no reboot, no extra space required beyond the actual size of the game. The game just automatically starts - the only clicks necessary are accepting the license agreement and the standard Windows dialog on where to install the game (all done at the front end before initiating the download). Is this another program that just runs all the time even when I'm not using it?
Absolutely not. We only load our support files (which are under 1 megabyte in size) when the game is started up, and completely unload ourselves when you exit the game. What are minimum specifications to use the BitRaider delivery system?
Windows XP or Vista 32bit and 64 Bit Systems, a Broadband Internet Connection, and appropriate hard drive space to store the game.
